About the role
Check the physical condition, packaging, stowage, and handling of dry, wet, or hazardous cargo before loading and after discharge. Supervise weighing, tallying, or conduct draft surveys (calculating cargo weight via a ship's water displacement and ballast readings). Investigate shortages, contamination, or physical damage to cargo, and determine the root cause for insurance or liability claims.
