Notice periods: what to say and how to shorten yours

Many employers filter out candidates with long notice periods before they read anything else. Say your official notice period, and what you can realistically do.

Ways to shorten it

• Ask your manager early and offer a clean handover plan
• Use leave balance to offset days, where your policy allows
• Ask the new employer whether they will buy out part of the notice
