Customer support and BPO interviews
Who it's for: Voice and chat process roles, international and domestic
Most BPO hiring is one day: an HR round, a communication (versant-style) test, a typing or chat test for non-voice roles, and an operations round with a mock call. They check clear speech, calm under pressure, and whether shifts suit you.
The answers are patterns to adapt with your own facts, not scripts to learn by heart: interviewers can tell.
- 1
Introduce yourself.
What they're checking: Fluency, pace and clarity more than content.
How to answer: Speak slowly, in short sentences: name, education, any work, why customer support. Under a minute.
A strong answer
"I'm Rohan, I finished my B.Com this year from Pune. I worked part time at a mobile store for a year, handling customers and returns. I enjoy solving people's problems, and I'd like to grow in customer support."
- 2
Why do you want to work in a BPO?
What they're checking: Will you stay past the first three months?
How to answer: Real reasons: communication, steady pay, growth to team lead or quality. Avoid 'I need any job'.
A strong answer
"I like talking to people and I want a job where I keep learning. Many team leads here started as agents, and I'd like that path."
- 3
Mock call: a customer is angry that their refund is late.
What they're checking: Empathy, ownership, and a clear next step.
How to answer: Let them finish, apologise once, confirm details, explain what you'll do and by when, and close politely.
A strong answer
"I'm sorry for the delay, I understand it's frustrating. May I have your order number? I can see the refund was approved on the 3rd; it reaches your bank in five to seven working days, so by the 10th. I'll also send you the reference number by SMS. Is there anything else I can help with?"
- 4
Are you comfortable with night shifts and rotational week-offs?
What they're checking: Shift fit, the main reason people leave.
