Staff Compiler Performance Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a Staff Compiler Performance Engineer to set the technical direction for Falcon performance. This is not a compiler front end role and not a compiler built from scratch: Falcon is mature and runs in production at large enterprises. You will decide where the next significant performance gains come from, lead the design of the optimizations that deliver them, and make sure the compiler architecture supports the product roadmap.

What you'll do

• Decide where the next significant performance gains come from, lead the design of the optimizations that deliver them
• Be the senior technical voice on a distributed team of compiler experts and a key partner for runtime, GC and product teams
• Define the performance strategy for Falcon: identify the largest opportunities across benchmarks and customer workloads and turn them into a technical roadmap
• Lead design of complex, cross cutting optimizations in the optimizer and code generator, and of the interfaces between the compiler, the runtime and the garbage collector
• Make architectural decisions on the Falcon optimization pipeline, compile time budget and tiering strategy
